This route is designed for private travel, with realistic driving times, carefully chosen overnight stops and room for the moments that make Morocco memorable.
01. Days 1–2: Arrive and settle into Marrakech
Begin in Marrakech with a private airport transfer to your riad or hotel. Give yourself time to settle into the rhythm of the Red City before exploring the medina, Bahia Palace, the souks and Djemaa el-Fnaa. A local guide can help you understand the architecture, craft traditions and food stalls without reducing the medina to a checklist.
On the second day, balance the energy of the old city with a slower afternoon in the Majorelle area or a traditional hammam. Marrakech works best when the itinerary leaves space for an unplanned tea, a rooftop sunset or a conversation with a craftsman.
02. Day 3: Cross the High Atlas to Ait Benhaddou
Leave Marrakech with a private driver and cross the Tizi n'Tichka pass into the landscapes of southern Morocco. The road winds through Berber villages, red valleys and high mountain viewpoints before reaching the Ounila region and the UNESCO-listed ksar of Ait Benhaddou.
Stay near Ait Benhaddou or Ouarzazate so the visit is not rushed. Late afternoon light brings out the colours of the earthen architecture, while an overnight stay lets you experience the quiet after the day visitors leave.
03. Days 4–5: Dades Valley and the Sahara Desert
Continue through the Valley of Roses and the Dades Valley, stopping for viewpoints and short walks before travelling through the Todra Gorge. The route then follows the changing landscape towards Merzouga and the Erg Chebbi dunes.
Arrive in time for a camel ride or a 4x4 transfer into the dunes, followed by dinner and a night in a comfortable desert camp. Wake early for sunrise, then continue to the Sahara's small villages and fossil country before returning to the main road.
04. Days 6–7: Fes, Morocco's historic intellectual capital
The journey north takes you through changing landscapes and towards Fes, one of Morocco's great cultural centres. Spend a full day with a local guide in the medina, visiting the Bou Inania and Al Attarine medersas, the tanneries, artisan quarters and the lanes around Nejjarine.
Fes rewards curiosity. Ask your guide to shape the visit around your interests, whether that means ceramics, architecture, Jewish heritage, Moroccan cuisine or the living traditions of the medina.
05. Day 8: Roman Volubilis and blue Chefchaouen
Travel from Fes to the Roman ruins of Volubilis, where mosaics and columns still sit in an open rural landscape. Continue to Chefchaouen in the Rif Mountains, arriving with enough time to explore its blue lanes and small artisan workshops.
06. Days 9–10: Return through Rabat or Casablanca
Depending on your departure flight, spend your final night in Rabat for a calmer introduction to Morocco's modern capital, or continue to Casablanca for the Hassan II Mosque and an easy airport connection. Your driver and travel designer can adjust the final two days around your flight time.
