A private driver in Morocco is a professional, licensed chauffeur with a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle — typically a minivan or SUV. They handle every road, toll, fuel and parking detail, meeting you at the airport and driving your exact itinerary.
Crucially, they know the roads: the hairpins of the Tizi n'Tichka pass, the desert tracks to Merzouga and the timing of long drives across the country. That local knowledge is worth gold.
02. Driver vs driver-guide
A driver focuses on safe transport. A driver-guide adds commentary, explains history and culture, and often arranges tickets and local visits. For first-timers we usually recommend a driver-guide for the first day or two, then a driver for the rest.
For city monuments, a specialist local guide in Fes or Marrakech is still the best — they know the tanneries and madrasas intimately.
03. What it typically costs
Pricing is usually per day, per route or per full package, and varies with season, group size and vehicle. As a guide, on our own 2026 programmes a private vehicle and driver are included in 8-day tours from roughly €715 per person and in private journeys from about $2,383 per person.

04. Do you tip your driver?
Tipping is appreciated and customary. As a guide, €5–10 per person per day is a fair range over a multi-day trip, and a bit more for an excellent driver-guide. It is cash, handed over at the end of the journey, and always warmly received.
If you are unsure what is fair, ask your DMC before you travel — they set local expectations honestly.
05. Private driver vs renting a car
Renting a car in Morocco is cheaper but brings stress: unfamiliar driving style, signage in Arabic and French, and long desert distances. A private driver removes all of it — you relax, sightsee and let a professional own the road.

A private driver pays off on any multi-city route; with a group of 4+ it often costs barely more per person than buses. It is essential for the desert circuits (the drive to Merzouga is long and remote) and for any family or multi-generation trip where comfort matters.
