Seven days is enough to experience several sides of Morocco when the route is focused. This practical plan combines Marrakech, the High Atlas, kasbah country, the Dades Valley and the Sahara without pretending you can see the whole country in one week.
01. Day 1: Arrive in Marrakech
Keep the first day gentle after your flight. Settle into your riad or hotel, take a short walk through the medina, and visit Jemaa el-Fnaa or nearby souks if your arrival time allows.
Avoid filling arrival day with fixed activities. Check-in, transfers and the first experience of the medina often take longer than expected.
02. Day 2: Discover Marrakech
Spend a full day exploring the medina, Bahia Palace, the Koutoubia area and one carefully chosen garden or cultural site. Start early for quieter lanes and softer light, then leave time to rest before dinner.
03. Day 3: Cross the High Atlas to Aït Benhaddou
Leave Marrakech after breakfast and cross the Tizi n'Tichka area. The scenery changes from foothills to mountain passes, valleys and southern landscapes, so allow time for viewpoints and short stops.
Continue to Aït Benhaddou, visit the historic ksar and stay overnight near the ksar or Ouarzazate. Mountain weather and road conditions can affect the timing.
04. Day 4: Ouarzazate, the Dades Valley and the road east
Continue through the landscapes south and east of Ouarzazate. Depending on your pace, stop at a kasbah, film landmark, the Valley of Roses or the Dades Valley.
The road is part of the experience, with changing rock formations, villages and valleys. Stay in the Dades area or continue farther if you prefer a longer travel day.
05. Day 5: Enter the Sahara
Continue towards Merzouga and the Erg Chebbi dunes. Transfer into the desert by camel or a suitable vehicle, enjoy sunset, and spend the night at a desert camp.
Desert nights can be cold even after a hot day. Pack layers, sun protection, comfortable shoes and a power bank.
06. Days 6–7: Return comfortably
Wake for sunrise, then begin the return journey. A realistic seven-day plan either includes an overnight stop in the Dades or Ouarzazate area, or reduces the desert portion to avoid an exhausting single-day drive to Marrakech.
If your international flight leaves early on Day 7, spend the previous night in Marrakech. If you have a late departure, keep the morning relaxed for breakfast, a final walk or last-minute shopping.
07. How to make one week work well
A private vehicle and driver make the mountain and desert sections easier, with flexibility for viewpoints, meals, photography and weather. Trains are useful between major cities but do not replace the southern road journey.
Marrakech, Aït Benhaddou, the Dades Valley and the Sahara already make a full week. Adding Fes, Chefchaouen or Essaouira usually means removing the time needed to enjoy the route.
