01. Why Morocco deserves your next vacation

Morocco sits at the crossroads of Africa, Europe and the Middle East, and it shows. French-speaking Berbers sell handwoven carpets, Arabic calligraphy adorns blue-painted doors, and Spanish-influenced architecture fills the north — a cultural cocktail you will not find anywhere else.

Whether you are a foodie hunting the perfect tagine, an adventurer ready to ride sand dunes, or someone who simply wants to get lost in a maze of colourful souks, Morocco delivers. It plays with every sense: the smell of cumin and saffron in narrow alleyways, the call to prayer echoing off terracotta walls, snow-capped Atlas Mountains rising behind palm-filled oases.

02. Best time to visit Morocco

Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) are ideal for most travellers. You get comfortable temperatures, blooming landscapes and fewer crowds.

Summer (June–August) is best for the coast — Essaouira, Agadir, Tangier — while inland cities and the Sahara get brutally hot. Winter (December–February) is mild in cities and great for budget travel, though Atlas mountain nights are cold.

For the Sahara specifically, aim for October to April for the most comfortable desert experience.

03. Must-visit cities

Marrakech hits you like a beautiful, chaotic wave — Djemaa el-Fnaa square with its storytellers and orange-juice stalls, the Bahia Palace, the Majorelle Garden and the lively souks.

Fes is the soul of Morocco: the world's largest car-free urban zone, a medieval city that refuses to change. Donkeys still carry goods through passages too narrow for a motorbike.

Chefchaouen, the blue-washed mountain town in the Rif, is Morocco's most photographed corner. Wake up early to beat the tour buses and catch golden hour on the blue walls.

04. The Sahara desert experience

The desert is not just sand — it is an experience. Desert tours typically depart from Merzouga or M'hamid. Ride a camel into sunset-painted dunes, sleep under more stars than you knew existed, and wake to a silence so complete it is almost musical.

Desert nights are cold: bring light layers, SPF 50 sunscreen, a scarf for sand and sun, a power bank, and an open mind.

05. What to eat in Morocco

Tagine, slow-cooked meat or vegetables in its iconic cone-shaped pot; couscous, the traditional Friday meal; pastilla, a flaky sweet-and-savoury pastry; and Moroccan mint tea — the famous "Berber whisky".

Eat with your right hand, accept at least the first glass of tea, never throw away bread, and tip 10–15% where service is not included.

06. Planning your itinerary

For first-timers we recommend at least 10 days: 3 in Marrakech, a 3-day desert adventure through the Dades Valley into the Sahara, 2 in Fes, and 1–2 in Chefchaouen before heading home.

Hidden gems worth adding: Ait Benhaddou (UNESCO kasbah from Game of Thrones), Todra Gorge, the relaxing coastal city of Essaouira, and Ouzoud Waterfalls.
